Bali Indonesia –July 2013 – Banyan Tree Ungasan, Bali’s signature restaurant, Ju-Ma-Na, will host Michelin Star Chef Christophe Schmitt from “Le Diane Restaurant” – Hotel Fouquet’s Barriere, Paris from 16 to 24 August 2013.

The launch of the event will be celebrated by Bali’s many gourmands and food critics, media, travel agents, events & wedding organisers, Jakarta socialites and the local expatriate community.

Chef Christophe is regarded as one of France’s most prominent rising stars having won the “Le Taittinger prix Culinaire” in November 2012, in Paris. He has also built a strong reputation for pushing gastronomic boundaries with his creations.

Chef Christophe together with Ju-Ma-Na’s own highly acclaimed team, will offer a special degustation menu and à-la-carte dishes featuring a contemporary interpretation of the great classics of French Gastronomy.

Commenting on what guests to Ju-Ma-Na can expect, “Gastronomy is a timeless art by inventing cuisines that will bring pleasure. I am eager to share the art of culinary precision that highlights a modern and sophisticated edge. Expect the unexpected, including plenty of fresh flavours and unusual combinations,” said Chef Christophe. “Cooking at Ju-Ma-Na is a great honour. I look forward to delivering my taste and vision of the French cuisine to magnify the local produce from Bali,” he added.

Chef Christophe’s signature dishes include:

  • HEIRLOOM TOMATO TART, fresh mozzarella, tomato juices flavored with lemon thyme
  • SCALLOPS, truffled potato, crispy potimarron winter squash
  • WAGYU BEEF SIRLOIN, baby carrots, bonito scented braising jus
  • CRISPY STRAWBERRY AND COCONUT TUBE, vanilla mousse, strawberry sorbet

About Chef Christophe Schmitt
Chef Christophe Schmitt is the Sous Chef of “Le Diane” Restaurant in Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière, Paris. He is the winner of “Le Taittinger Prix Culinaire”, 2012.

Chef graduated in Hospitality Diploma in 2011 in France. He gathered a wealth of experience in Gastronomic cuisine where he worked in many luxurious restaurants such as Abbaye De La Bussière, Les Terrasses de Lyon and Maison Lameloise in France. He is renowned in combining a profound knowledge of classic French gastronomy with modern interpretations to create contemporary fare that reveals a subtlety of flavours presented in the most elegant style.

A French national, Christophe is single and loves travelling which allows him a healthy work-life balance.

Nicknamed the ‘Everest of Gastronomy, “Le Taittinger prix Culinaire” is an international contest whose objective is to promote the principles of classical French cuisine.
