Green Turtle Eggs Find A Haven at W Bali and Now Hatched,
Are Released Back Into The Sea From Seminyak Beach
Bali, Indonesia – August 27th, 2012. After 60 days of incubation at W Retreat & Spa Bali – Seminyak, 239 green turtle eggs have hatched and been released back into the Indian Ocean just in front of the Retreat.
In the last three months, 6 large green turtles have come to lay their eggs at Seminyak Beach. After consulting with local wildlife groups that are in the know, they advised that the Retreat guard the eggs, do not disturb them and once hatched to release them back into the sea. As part of the ongoing green environmental philosophy of W Bali, this exciting initiative goes hand in hand with protecting our flora & fauna.
W Hotels Worldwide was the first international hotel chain to promote a pet-friendly program. “Pets Are Welcome”, aka the P.A.W. program, allows certain hotels to cater to the pets needs, including treats, a custom W pet bed and pet-walking service. “Though we only allow pets in our public areas, the turtles bring a whole new meaning to pet friendly”, says Craig Seaward, General Manager of W Retreat & Spa Bali – Seminyak. “There has been a strong concerted effort to educate the villagers to protect and conserve these endangered animals. We wanted to do our part to shelter the turtle eggs and play a strong part to help regenerate the population in Indonesia.”
- From the total of 239 hatched turtles, 98 of them hatched on Wednesday 22nd August 2012 and 141 hatched on Sunday 26th of August 2012.
- There are still three areas that we are protecting where Green Turtle have laid their eggs.
- This is the second turtle release that W Bali has done since it opened in March 2011.
- The last turtle release was in 17th of August 2011 where W Bali released 49 Green Turtles.
